Elastic Bandage or Self-Adhesive Wrap: Which One When?
They look alike in a photo and behave very differently on a leg. Here is how we tell people to choose.

| Elastic bandage | Woven, hook-and-loop ends, washable and reusable. Best for even compression over a sprain or a sore knee. |
|---|---|
| Self-adhesive wrap | Sticks only to itself, tears by hand, single use. Best for holding gauze, fingers, pets' legs and tattoo grips. |
Choose the elastic bandage when…
- You want to wrap and re-wrap the same joint for several days.
- You need a wide roll (4–6 inches) for a thigh, calf or the torso.
- You would rather wash than throw away.
Choose the self-adhesive wrap when…
- You are holding a gauze pad in place and do not want tape on the skin.
- One hand is busy and the other has to tear the roll.
- It is for a dog, a horse, a finger or a tattoo machine grip.
Why most drawers keep both
One roll of each covers nearly every small mishap at home. The elastic wraps and self-adhesive wraps both come in mixed packs, so you can start with a handful of each width.
